ModuleCo are proud to partnered with the Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust and provided a state-of-the-art Community Diagnostic Centre at the Livingstone Community Hospital. The modular facility will boost local diagnostic services in the area and greatly reduce waiting times.
From Installation to Opening in 12 Weeks
Replacing a temporary installation from 2023, this new facility is permanent and includes advanced imaging equipment, waiting areas and consulting rooms. The centre is expected to operate 12 hours per day, 7 days per week, and perform an estimated 130,000 tests annually.
Plans were approved last year after the Livingstone Community Hospital received a share of the Government’s £2.3 billion investment fund to create the CDC as part of a national effort to cut NHS waiting times. The new centre now stands where the former maternity building once stood.
Advanced Imaging and Assessments in a Purpose‑Designed Setting
The North Kent Community Diagnostic Centre brings a wide range of essential diagnostic services together under one roof, designed with both comfort and convenience in mind.
Visitors are welcomed into a bright, spacious reception and waiting area that feels calm and reassuring from the moment they arrive. The centre includes purpose‑built rooms for X‑ray and CT scanning, as well as a dedicated MRI suite complete with an operator control room and its own patient preparation space.
There are also specialist rooms for respiratory tests, bone density scans (DEXA), ultrasound and echocardiography, along with a dedicated phlebotomy room for blood tests and an adjoining space for on‑site analysis. Patients benefit from thoughtful touches throughout, including a private preparation area ahead of their scan and a comfortable recovery zone for post‑procedure support.
Behind the scenes, the centre houses essential operational spaces such as offices, changing rooms and staff rest areas.
By bringing all these services together in one purpose‑designed space, the centre offers a genuine ‘one‑stop’ experience. Patients no longer need to move between different departments or navigate busy outpatient areas, making their visit smoother, quicker and far less stressful.
At the formal opening of the centre, which took place on 16th of October, Karin Smyth, Minister of State for Health, said: “The NHS should fit around patients’ lives, not the other way round, and this new CDC means the people of North Kent will be able to get checked more quickly, more conveniently, and closer to home.”

Turnkey Project Delivering a Fully Operational Healthcare Facility
The North Kent CDC was delivered as a full turnkey project, with ModuleCo overseeing every phase, including design development, foundation and enabling works, off‑site manufacturing, and the installation of specialist diagnostic equipment. Our in‑house teams are equipped to manage the complete lifecycle of a healthcare project. From early assessments of clinical requirements, service pathways, site limitations and operational pressures, through to comprehensive feasibility reviews covering clinical, technical, financial and site considerations.
Following this, we collaborate closely with clinical user groups to design a tailored solution that reflects patient flows, equipment footprints and all required compliance standards. Our turnkey model ensures smooth, end‑to‑end coordination across design, manufacture, installation and commissioning. Acting as a single, accountable partner, we deliver facilities precisely aligned to each client’s clinical and operational needs.
Our “factory‑first” approach enables around 90% of the building’s construction to be completed within our controlled manufacturing centre rather than on a live hospital site. This significantly reduces disruption to surrounding clinical services and shortens the on‑site programme. By shifting the majority of activity off‑site, we maintain full control of quality, safety and sequencing, improving programme reliability, reducing risk and providing far greater certainty over cost and delivery. This approach ensures exceptional transparency throughout the build process and guarantees that the completed building meets the highest standards of healthcare quality.

Improving Patient Access and Outcomes
One of the unique aspects of the design for the North Kent Community Diagnostic Centre is the circular but segmented foot traffic floorplan and colour‑coded waiting zones. These were specifically designed to maximise use of space, reduce congestion and provide easy navigation for patients. The wide corridors and bespoke semi‑circular flow path help achieve this while reducing safety risks and improving the overall patient experience.
The new permanent diagnostic centre at the Livingstone Community Hospital replaces a temporary building installed in 2023 and is expected to operate 12 hours per day, 7 days per week, performing an estimated 130,000 tests annually.
