Mortuaries
Mortuary Facilities
Mortuaries provide essential services within hospital and community settings. They support the respectful care and storage of deceased individuals, while also accommodating post-mortem examinations and related clinical or legal procedures.
ModuleCo delivers high-quality modular mortuary buildings that meet the requirements set out in Health Building Note 16-01. These facilities can be built as permanent standalone units or integrated within a larger hospital estate. Each is configured to support clinical, legal, and cultural responsibilities with care and precision.
Modular Mortuaries
ModuleCo’s modular mortuaries provide secure, temperature-controlled body storage, that can be designed with separate areas for adults, infants, and bariatric cases.
In addition to body storage, our mortuaries can include post-mortem suites, viewing rooms for relatives, and support areas for clinical teams and visiting professionals to help them navigate difficult situations with sensitivity and structure.
Hospital Mortuary Design and Build
ModuleCo designs mortuary facilities in line with HBN 16-01, which outlines the functional and environmental standards for mortuaries, body stores, and post-mortem rooms. Our designs support safe, efficient working environments while ensuring dignity and privacy for the deceased and their families. Facilities are planned with clear zoning between clean and dirty workflows, including areas for body reception, storage, examination, and release.
We provide body stores with mechanical cooling systems and space for a range of storage capacities, from small units to high-volume services. Our solutions can also include fully equipped post-mortem rooms, including downdraft tables, dedicated ventilation, and infection control measures in line with guidance. Viewing rooms and family waiting areas can be included to support sensitive interactions with relatives.
Our mortuary facilities can also be configured to support bariatric provision. This includes wider access routes, reinforced trolleys and hoists, and body stores with extended dimensions and enhanced load capacity. We work with specialist suppliers to ensure that equipment and layouts meet the necessary safety and dignity standards when caring for bariatric patients. These considerations are built into the facility from the outset to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all users.
All services, including drainage, ventilation, lighting, and equipment integration, are coordinated to suit the mortuary’s purpose and local requirements. Whether for temporary increase in capacity or a permanent new build, our modular mortuaries are built for compliance, safety, and long-term use.
