Diagnostic Imaging Units

ModuleCo designs, manufactures and installs a wide range of complex diagnostic imaging units, including but not limited to community diagnostic centres, MRI, CT, PET-CT, X-ray, endoscopy, and cardiac catheterisation laboratories.

We have worked with all major equipment suppliers, including Philips, Siemens, and GE, and have a thorough understanding of the complexities involved in installation, as well as the specific requirements associated with each facility type and clinical specialism.

Hospital Diagnostic Imaging Units

Hospitals have become increasingly reliant on imaging techniques to meet the growing demands of patient diagnosis, treatment, and other aspects of care.

Despite significant technological advancements in recent years, the experience of diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology can still be unpleasant for patients. It is therefore crucial for modern facilities to consider not only the technical requirements of the equipment but also to place emphasis on the care environment, ensuring patients are made as comfortable as possible.

Our modular imaging facilities are designed to do exactly that. They place both the patient and the clinical staff at the centre of the design, while meeting the necessary technological and structural requirements of the imaging equipment. This includes appropriate finishes, radiation shielding, and the structural loading performance of the module floors.

Imaging Unit Design

Demand for diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology is increasing, and this trend is expected to continue. While technological innovation will continue to evolve imaging techniques, it is unlikely to reduce the overall need for these facilities and their associated services.

Diagnostic imaging now plays a central role in patient care, supporting consultation, diagnosis, clinical discussions, and treatment. Multidisciplinary teams are more frequently involved in the diagnosis and management of conditions, further underlining the importance of imaging within the clinical pathway.

To support timely and effective care, diagnostic imaging departments must be well designed and carefully planned to integrate seamlessly into the wider patient treatment journey.

From modular MRI, CT, PET-CT, and endoscopy units to larger community diagnostic centres (CDCs), our facilities are built to support both patients and clinical staff, while also meeting the significant loading and technical demands of imaging equipment.

We deliver diagnostic imaging facilities designed and built in full compliance with NHS Health Building Notes (HBNs) and Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs), specifically the guidelines related to the design and installation of healthcare imaging environments, including:

Diagnostic Imaging Facility Construction

ModuleCo is uniquely positioned to manufacture buildings around specialist imaging equipment. Our modular structures meet strict vibration compliance standards, eliminating the need for on-site concrete. We also accommodate complex shielding requirements, including RF cages and lead lining.

Our 'factory-first', off-site construction approach allows for the installation of imaging equipment at our manufacturing facility, reducing programme durations and enabling seamless integration upon delivery to site.

Thermal performance and air permeability exceed standard requirements, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting year-round sustainability through reduced heating and cooling demands. Each facility is designed with a 60-year structural lifespan and the appearance and quality of a traditional building.

Delivered to site up to 90% complete, our buildings take off-site construction further than anyone else. This significantly shortens the overall project programme and minimises disruption to the ongoing operations of your hospital.

Modular Diagnostic Facilities

Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories

Cardiac catheterisation laboratories (cath labs) are specialist hospital facilities designed for both diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. A ModuleCo modular cath lab or tertiary referral centre can be delivered as a fully equipped standalone facility. These may include cardiac X-ray procedure rooms with single or biplane fluoroscopy or fluorography systems, a control room for imaging equipment, a technical room, adjacent anaesthetic spaces, and scrubbing-up facilities.

Our cardiac catheterisation suites are designed and built to operating theatre standards, consistent with those required for both vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures.

Community Diagnostic Centres

Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) are transforming the delivery of diagnostic care by bringing essential services closer to patients’ homes. We design and deliver bespoke modular CDCs tailored to the specific needs of each healthcare provider. Whether dedicated solely to diagnostic imaging or integrated with additional clinical services, our modular approach offers maximum flexibility and efficiency.

Each CDC can include a customised mix of MRI, CT, X-ray, endoscopy, and non-imaging diagnostic services, seamlessly integrated to support a wide range of diagnostic pathways.

CT and PET-CT

CT and PET-CT units are highly specialised environments that house advanced scanning equipment used to produce detailed, real-time images of internal organs, soft tissue, and metabolic activity. ModuleCo designs and delivers CT and PET-CT facilities in accordance with Health Building Note 06-01 guidance. This includes careful zoning, radiation protection measures, infection control, and ergonomic workflow design to support clinical teams.

Rooms housing CT and PET-CT scanners are fitted with appropriate shielding to protect staff and adjacent areas from radiation exposure. We have experience working with all major equipment suppliers and collaborate closely with clients to ensure that all service, spatial, and structural requirements are met.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy units are specialist environments where minimally invasive procedures are performed using flexible cameras to examine the interior of the body. These facilities typically include procedure rooms, admission and recovery areas, decontamination and scope reprocessing zones, and staff support spaces.

ModuleCo’s modular endoscopy units are designed to deliver high quality, efficient diagnostic and treatment services, either as standalone buildings or integrated within existing healthcare estates. Built in compliance with Health Building Note 10-02, our endoscopy suites provide a fully compliant, patient focused environment that supports seamless workflows, ensures patient safety, and upholds clinical excellence.

MRI

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) facilities provide advanced diagnostic imaging using powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of internal organs, tissues, and structures. Unlike X-ray or CT, MRI does not use ionising radiation, making it particularly suitable for repeated imaging and for patient groups considered to be at higher risk, such as children and pregnant women.

ModuleCo designs and builds MRI facilities in accordance with Health Building Note 06-01, incorporating all essential safety, shielding, and workflow considerations to ensure a compliant and patient focused environment.

X-ray

Designed and built to meet strict radiation shielding requirements, our X-ray facilities incorporate specialist lead protection, with up to 14 mm of lead, assembled in our controlled manufacturing centre to ensure precision and full compliance. Each facility includes dedicated areas for control stations and image capture equipment, enabling safe and efficient operation.

Layouts are carefully planned to optimise patient flow, reduce waiting times, and enhance overall clinical efficiency.
