DAY SURGERY UNITS
Day Surgery Facilities
General Surgery • Ear, Nose & Throat • Hand & Knee •
Ophthalmics • Urology
Our modular day surgery units are designed to include all of the clinical and supporting accommodation recommended by Healthcare Building Note (HBN) 10-02. The typical accommodation we offer includes main reception, sub-waiting area, admission suite, PACU, step down recovery areas, discharge lounge, consultation rooms, offices, staff change, and welfare.
They can be integrated with your existing estate, with the clinical and supporting accommodation added to or omitted as required.

Day Surgery Unit Design
To provide maximum flexibility, the day surgery operating rooms benefit from the same HBN compliant areas as with our other operating theatre types, with a 62m2 operating room that features an integrated scrub and that has a three-metre ceiling height.
Additional design considerations can be introduced to cater for specialist use, such as ophthalmic procedures, where we can provide additional structural support for floor or ceiling-mounted microscopes. Our theatres can also be designed for robots and hybrid equipment such as CT scanners.
Ophthalmic Operating Theatres
Ophthalmic surgery requires significant modification to the fixtures, fittings, equipment and structure beyond that of a typical industry operating theatre.
ModuleCo day surgery theatres have a floor vibration performance that exceeds the HBN recommendations, requiring no design alterations to meet the specification of a floor mounted microscope.
Should your preference be to install a concrete floor, our module design can be adjusted to facilitate a concrete slab.

Eye Surgery Design Adaptations
We have installed several ophthalmology day surgery units equipped with a ceiling mounted microscope, adapting the design of our robust modular structure to meet microscope manufacturer specifications.
Window frosting and internal blinds for the clinical doors can be installed to support the use of lasers in theatre.
Our modular ophthalmic theatre has the same 144m2 footprint and provides the same level of operating and support space as our other HBN compliant operating theatres.

“It’s like a cathedral to ophthalmology in a way. It’s large and shiny with all the latest equipment. Everything is new. I’ve never been inside a more space-age theatre in all my life. It’s probably the best theatre we have in Wales for eye care.”
Swansea Bay University Health Board partnered with ModuleCo to build multiple ophthalmic day surgery units
