Pathology Laboratories
Laboratories play a critical role in modern healthcare, supporting diagnosis, treatment planning, and disease monitoring across almost every clinical specialty. More than half of all diagnoses rely on the analysis of samples processed within a pathology lab. These facilities must be designed for precision, safety, and efficiency, with workflows that support the timely handling and testing of blood, tissue, and other biological materials.
ModuleCo designs and delivers modular pathology labs that meet NHS standards, installed as standalone buildings or integrated within larger clinical departments to support diagnostic services.

Diagnostic Service Delivery
Pathology services are essential for diagnosing conditions such as infections, cancers, autoimmune diseases, and metabolic disorders. They are also used to monitor ongoing treatments, screen for inherited conditions, and support public health surveillance. Laboratories are typically divided into specialist areas such as haematology, microbiology, histopathology, clinical chemistry, and molecular diagnostics.
ModuleCo provide laboratory environments that can support both high-throughput and specialist testing while maintaining strict quality standards.
Laboratory Design and Build
ModuleCo designs pathology laboratories in line with Health Building Note 15, carefully planned to support safe and efficient workflows, with clear separation between clean and dirty zones and unidirectional sample flow to minimise the risk of contamination and support traceability throughout the testing process.
Each lab is tailored to the specific needs of the service. They can be focused on a single discipline such as microbiology or haematology, or designed as a consolidated, multi-specialty pathology hub.
Our modular labs can include dedicated areas for specimen reception, processing, analysis, reporting, and storage, along with write-up spaces, staff welfare rooms, changing areas, and integrated plant rooms.
ModuleCo’s laboratories are built to accommodate a wide range of diagnostic technologies, from benchtop analysers to large-scale automation and robotic testing platforms.
Provision is made for laboratory gases, clean power, and data connectivity to support complex equipment and Laboratory Information Management Systems.
Cold storage areas and sample refrigeration are included where required, and layouts can support digital pathology workflows, including space for high-resolution slide scanners and remote reporting stations.
All of our pathology labs are designed with future flexibility in mind. Facilities can be expanded or reconfigured as testing volumes grow or as new technologies are introduced.
Whether they are built as a standalone unit or integrated into a wider diagnostics programme, ModuleCo’s modular pathology labs are built off-site to pride a fast, compliant, and exceptional quality solution that supports high-quality care and efficient service delivery.

Laboratories Projects
BSL-2 Quality Control Laboratory
ModuleCo provided a BSL-2 quality control facility forming part of a vaccine testing process at the site. The facility comprises testing rooms and incubation rooms, with integrated cage washer and air showers to maintain a BSL-2 boundary.

Quality Operations Laboratory
Our client had a requirement to urgently house centralised testing operations as well as further stability storage to support their growing vaccines operations in Europe.
