ModuleCo has once again been named as the construction partner at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Working in partnership with The Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Community and Hospitals NHS Group, ModuleCo will design, manufacture and install a 240 square metre facility comprising an ophthalmic operating theatre, featuring an Ultra Clean Ventilation (UCV) canopy, alongside a dedicated two-bed recovery area for patients following their procedures.
The scheme is expected to complete in early 2027 and forms part of the The Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Community and Hospitals NHS Group's ongoing investment in modern healthcare facilities. The Group covers a large area providing a range of services in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, Mid Wales through to the Dudley area, covering a combined population of more than 600,000.
“We’re pleased to be working with ModuleCo on this exciting development following the successful delivery of our two new wards last year.
"The new theatre and recovery bays will allow us to continue building on the fantastic progress we are making in planned care, allowing more patients to receive much-needed surgery quicker, in a modern, purpose-built environment. I look forward to seeing the project take shape over the coming months."
- Ned Hobbs, Group Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive of The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Hospital Trust
Groundworks are now underway on the site of the new facility, adjacent to Wards 38 and 39 which were also constructed by ModuleCo and opened in December last year. Once built this new theatre will connect to the existing two wards, improving access between surgical and rehabilitation teams.
"We are delighted to be working with the Trust again to deliver this much-needed additional theatre capacity. We look forward to creating a facility that will support excellent patient care for many years to come.”
- Jonathan Brindley, Sales Director at ModuleCo

Fast‑Track Delivery Using Modular ‘Factory‑First’ Construction
ModuleCo will apply its Factory‑First modular construction approach to this scheme, approximately 90% of the building will be completed offsite meaning minimal disruption to patients and staff.
This approach significantly reduced disruption to ongoing hospital operations while improving build quality and programme certainty. As a result, the Trust was able to bring additional inpatient capacity online quickly and safely.
Clinically Led Modular Theatre Design
The theatre will be designed in close collaboration with clinical teams with particular attention paid to patient flow and integration within existing site infrastructure.
